“THE HOLY ONE OF GOD”
Satan knows the Scriptures, and he understands the true meaning of every verse and every chapter. So, when Jesus was born the significance of the baby lying in a manger didn’t get past him. He watched Jesus as He grew up. He watched the men of Galilee becoming disciples of Jesus. He saw crowds gather wherever Jesus went. Even Satan’s demons knew who Jesus was.
(Luke 4: 33,34) Satan knew that Jesus was the Holy One of God, and he schemed to be rid of Jesus.
Satan’s chance came when Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness. Satan kept his eyes on Jesus – waiting for a chance to defeat the Holy One of God. In the barren wilderness Jesus fasted for 40 days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry. When Satan saw that Jesus had become weak and hungry, he jumped in and hammered Jesus with three different temptations. But, Jesus quoted Scripture to confront and resist each temptation.
Then the devil left Him
But, Satan is a tenacious adversary. He didn’t give up on Jesus. He kept scheming until he saw Jesus on the cross of Calvary. Satan had the Holy- Son –of- God right where he wanted Him. We can imagine Satan dancing around Golgotha’s hill while shouting, “I win! I win!
But, the truth is that the cross was God’s plan. God sent His only Son to shed His blood on the cross because God is opposed to sin. Before Jesus shed His blood to break death’s hold on God’s children, animal sacrifice was the only way to pay the price of sin. But, our loving Father put the sins of man onto His Son and defeated death for all. Animal sacrifice is no more. The penalty has been paid.
…we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
And every priest stands ministering daily and offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But this Man after He had offered one sacrifice for the sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God… For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified. And the Holy Spirit also witnesses to us…
This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord:
“I will put My laws into their hearts, and into their minds I will write them.”
Then He adds: “Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.”
Now where there is remission of these, there is no longer an offering for sin,..
…Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering for He who promised is faithful. (Hebrews 10:10-23)
